Elwood Harrison Brockway, 85, of Burlington, died at 1:41 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, 2009, at Great River Medical Center Rehab in West Burlington.

Born Oct. 14, 1923, in Kingston, he was the son of Archie Lee and Ella Mae Goble Brockway. On June 28, 1946, he married Patricia W. Welch in Burlington.

Mr. Brockway worked as a welder at the Experimental Division of J.I. Case in Burlington. He served in the Navy Seabees. He coached Little League for many years, co-managing the 1960 Iowa state champions in Little League. He was a member of SS. Patrick & Mary Catholic Church. He was a member of Eagles Club and American Legion. He enjoyed golfing, Iowa and Southeastern Community College sports and baseball.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Stephen Brockway and Tom Brockway, both of Burlington; six sisters, Marjorie Rice, Marian Andries, Eleanor Breuer, Pauline Massey, Gladys Wiley and Delores Christofferson; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and one brother.

The funeral for Mr. Brockway will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Prugh's Chapel with the Rev. Randy Langner officiating. Burial with military rites in Memorial Park Cemetery in Burlington.

A memorial has been established for Des Moines County Special Needs Foundation.
