Floyd C. Laue, 72, of 413 Ballard St., West Burlington, died of cancer at 4:17 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, 1996, at Burlington Medical Center.
Born Oct. 6, 1923, in Ewing, Mo., he was the son of Charles August and Gertrude Meller Laue. He married Mary D. McLaughlin on Nov. 19, 1949, in Dodgeville.
Mr. Laue was an Army veteran of World War II, receiving numerous commendations and medals. He was commander of the 495th Engineer Battalion of the Army Reserves and retired as a lieutenant colonel after 30 years of service.
He was an engineer at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant and head of product safety for Mason Hanger-Silas Mason. He also worked in the Atomic Energy Department, retiring in 1993 after 44 years of service. During his tenure, he was in charge of implementing the EPA program at IAAP.He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in West Burlington, where he served as Eucharist minister, was on the board of Burlington Area Catholic Schools and was a past member of the building committee for St. Mary’s and Notre Dame schools. He was an honorary retired member of Knights of Columbus, which he served as a Black Knight.
He was past president of West Burlington Little League, past director of Notre Dame bus transportation, past member of Notre Dame Home and School, and a 4H supporter and volunteer for 35 years. He was a member of Des Moines County Fair Board, Beef Committee, Travelers Protective Association, Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10102, Des Moines Co. Farm Bureau, Blackhawk Booster Club and Blackhawk Century Club. He loved fishing, gardening and woodworking and was an avid reader and tutor.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Judith Ann Laue of Bettendorf; two sons, Bernard Charles Laue of Wapello and Craig Edward Laue of Largo, Fla.; one brother, Delbert Laue of Burlington; three sisters, Marceline Samuels of Wapello, Lucille Jennings of Columbus Junction and Patricia White of Springdale, Ark.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and an infant sister.
Friends may call after 8 a.m. today in Lunning Chapel, where there will be a Knights of Columbus rosary at 4 p.m., a Christian wake service at 7 p.m. and the family will receive friends until 9 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Laue will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with the Rev. John Sterling officiating. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery, with military rites conducted by VFW Post 10102.
Memorials have been established for St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Notre Dame Catholic Schools.
