Avery Dwight Adolphson, 93, of Mediapolis, died Saturday afternoon, March 16, 2002, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born July 19, 1908, in Huron Township, rural Mediapolis, he was the son of Elmer A. and Anna (Lindahl) Adolphson. On April 25, 1943, he married Wilma Lane in Mediapolis. She died May 8, 1991.

Mr. Adolphson farmed until the late 1950's, when he moved to Mediapolis. He attended Burlington Business School, then worked as a bookkeeper for Brockway Co. in Burlington and then in production at General Electric until he retired in 1973.

He was a 1924 graduate of Huron High School. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church at Mediapolis. He served on the ASCS committee and Zion Country School Board for several years. He enjoyed pitching horseshoes, reading Westerns and doing crossword puzzles.

Survivors include six daughters, Elaine Brown of Mason City, Frances Lucas of Phoenix, Juanita Derby and Janice Hester, both of Burlington, Kay Wirt of Mediapolis and Alice Gibson of Chillicothe, MO; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and several nieces, and nephews.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one grandson, three brothers, and three sons-in-law.

Visitation will begin after noon on Tuesday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Adolphson will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Gaulke officiating. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery.
