Lemoyne Edward "Bear" Witte, 81, of rural Morning Sun died Monday, Feb. 25, 2013, at his home.

Born Oct. 18, 1931, on his farm in rural Morning Sun, he was the son of Edward and Zella Wells Witte. On Sept. 1, 1952, he married Marjorie Eibes in Burlington.

Mr. Witte was a lifelong farmer and farmed the family farm where he was born. He graduated from Yarmouth High School in 1949, and served in the Air Force. He was a member of American Legion in Mediapolis and Eagle's and Moose, both in Burlington. He enjoyed travelling, winters in Florida, designing and building structures, including his farm buildings and his home, and woodworking.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Sherry Black-Primmer of Cedar Rapids; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Fern Swanson of Morning Sun and Fort Meyers Beach, Fla.; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one grandchild, his parents and one sister.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where family will receive friends.

The funeral for Mr. Witte will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home, with the Rev. Earlene Lekwa officiating. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery in rural Mediapolis.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice.
