Oldest Pioneer Gone
B. G. Archer, or Mediapolis. Who Has Lived in Iowa and Des Moines County Sixty-Seven Years, Passes Away.

Medinpolis, la., Oct. 23. Died, at his home in this city at 12:30 o'clock, today. Mr. E. G. Archer, aged 79 years. He leaves a wife and eleven children. The children are all married, and are living in Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Colorado and California. The funeral will be held on Saturday at 1 o'clock p. m.Mr. Archer, or "Gill" Archer, as he was called by all his old friends, was one of the oldest settlers of Des Moines county. He came here with his friends from Bond county, Illinois, when he was but 12 years of age in May 1835, and had lived in this vicinity ever since. He was a great farmer and stock raiser and had many fine blooded road horses. He moved from his farm four miles west of town to Medlapolis last spring. Mr. Archer was an old and widely known citizen and had been a subscriber of the Hawk-Eye for nearly fifty years.
