George Edward Smith, 67, of Burlington Care Center, died at 7:10 P.M. Thursday, January 12, 2006 at the care center.

Born December 28, 1938, in Burlington, he was the son of John P. and Dorothy H. Charter Smith.

Mr. Smith was an iron worker.

He was a 1956 graduate of Burlington High School and an Army veteran. He was a member of Spring Grove Methodist Church. He enjoyed football, music and golf and was an avid Chicago Cubs fan.

Survivors include two sisters, Sherry Olden of West Burlington and Sandra Schmitt of Fort Madison; one brother, James L. Smith of Burlington; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers.

There will be no visitation. According to his wishes, his body has been cremated.
