BARBARA HUDGEL

Barbara Marguerite Hudgel, 91, of Burlington died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born Feb. 9, 1921 in Raritan Township, Ill., she was the daughter of Raymond and Ellen Swanson Galbraith. She married in 1940 and divorced in 1945. On June 15, 1951, she married Paul Hudgel. He died Aug. 29, 2004.

Mrs. Hudgel was a 1938 graduate of Media High School and a 1939 graduate of Burlington Beauty Academy. She operated her beauty shop on North Hill for many years.

In addition to beauty work, she enjoyed quilting, painting in oils and the things that make a happy home. She was a faithful member of the First Congregational Church, where she served as a deaconess. She was a member and secretary of Chittenden Circle and was one of the last surviving members.

Survivors include two sons, Dennis Hudgel and Douglas Hudgel; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother, one sister and one granddaughter.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lunning Chapel.

The funeral service for Ms. Hudgel will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at First Congregational Church, with the Rev. James Francisco officiating. Burial will be in Stronghurst Cemetery in Stronghurst, Ill.

A memorial has been established for First Congregational Church.
