Passing of Henry Thie
Honored Old Resident Has Gone to His Reward,
Had Lived Here Almost Sixty Yeas and Had Served County in Board of Supervisors.

Henry Thie passed away at his home ten miles from the city, on the Iowa City road, at 8 o'clock yesterday morning. Thus an unusually busy life has come to end. The funeral will be held from the family home at 10 o'clock Friday morning, with services at the Steeple church at 2 o'clock, to which friends are invited. The services at the home will be private.

Henry Thie was born in Westphalen, in Prussia, Germany, February 18, 1834, and came to this country in 1867 and began at the bottom, working as a farm hand for several years until he had become familiar with American methods and had acquired some knowledge of the language. Then he became a tenant farmer and in the course of another few years he purchased a farm of his own, to which he continued to add from time to time and which he improved in every possible manner. He was a republican in politics, served his neighbors faithfully in various local offices and also served the county in the board of supervisors, being elected to that office in 1903. There as elsewhere he demonstrated that the voters had made no mistake in making him their choice.

Henry Thie was married to Christina Distelhorst, February 26, 1862. The union proved a happy one and was blessed with eight children, of whom Edward and Louise preceded the father to the other shore. The good wife and mother passed away June17, 1905. The surviving children are Henry Thie, Jr., Charles, Frederick, William, John and Henry Thie. Deceased was a faithful member of the German Evangelical church, a good citizen, a loving husband and father, and he will be held in kindly remembrance by all who had come to know him.
