Dianne Kay Appell, 55, of Mediapolis, died Sunday, December 1, 2002, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City. The daughter of Aubrey and Peggy Hutchcroft Daedlow, she was born May 21, 1947 at Burlington.
She was a 1965 graduate of Mediapolis High School and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1969 with a bachelor of arts degree in Spanish.

She married Randy Appell on August 24, 1973, at Golden, Colorado. They were later divorced.
She was a bookkeeper and store manager at various retail stores.

She was a member of First United Presbyterian Church at Mediapolis, the T.T.T. Chapter of Mediapolis, had sung in the church choir, and had been a part of the Mediapolis Community Theater.

She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching movies. She loved her cats and chocolate.
Survivors include her mother, Peggy Daedlow of Mediapolis; two daughters, Megan and Ed Melcher of Iowa City and Leah Appell of Iowa City; and two brothers, Dennis and Mary Daedlow of Burlington and Alan and Kathy Daedlow of Tipton. She was preceded in death by her father.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 5 at the First United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. H. Dick Reynolds officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Kevin Mellinger, Darren Daedlow, Ryan Daedlow, Nathan Daedlow, Marianne Briggs, and Michelle Segebart.

Following cremation, burial will be at the Kossuth Cemetery at a later date.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the First United Presbyterian Church of Mediapolis.

The Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis is in charge of arrangements.
