William John Brookhiser, Sr., 87, 1101 N. 8th St., died in Mercy Hospital Friday after an extended illness.

He was born in Germany, July 27, 1859, the son of Frank and Catherine Brookhiser and came to this country 81 years ago. He had lived in Burlington for the past three years making his home with his daughter, Mrs. Lorenz Vahle He waas of the Lutheran faith. September 11, 1883 in Burlington he married Wilhelmena Dietz.

Five children survive: Frank A., Marion; William Jr., Wever; Mrs. Fred Hartman, Burlington; Mrs. Grover Willson, Morning Sun; Mrs. Lorenz Vahle, Burlington; 24 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren.

The body is at Prugh's Chapel pending funeral arrangements.
