TED DEAN CALVIN

Ted Dean Calvin, 67, of rural Burlington, died March 16, 2001, at his home.

He was born Nov. 7, 1933, in Creston to Walter and Cora McNeil Calvin. He married Janet Topping May 24, 1952, in Fairfield.

A Birmingham High School graduate, he attended Southeastern Community College and was an MCI machine operator for J.I. Case until retiring in 1991.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Burlington; U.A.W. Local 807, also serving as a steward; Des Moines County Democratic Central Committee; Labor council BOA Board; Local Food Basket Board; Local CAP Council; Environmental U.A.W. Board; U.A.W. Retirees of Southeast Iowa. He was also inducted into the Democratic Hall of Fame.

Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Tina Sargent of St. Charles, Mo., and Linda Hermann, Teresa Trosen and Mishell Calvin, all of Burlington; two sons, Dennis of Julian, PA., Tim of Streamwood, IL.; 16 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; three sisters, Velda Darbyshire of Wa(s)rsaw, MO., Nadine Walker of Danville and Jean Dipboye of Springdale, AK.; and one brother, Jerry of Naperville, Il.

He was preceded in death by four brothers and four sisters.

Services were held Marcy 19 at First Presbyterian Church, the Revs. Forrest and Sue Krummel officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery, Birmingham.

Lunning chapel was in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church Scholarship Fund, 321 N. 5th St., Burlington; or to Crossroads Hospice.
