Rev. John A. Royer 1935 - 2010

ROYER, MULLIKIN, HILBRANT

Reverend John A. Royer, 75, of West Burlington, died at 7:45 PM Thursday, September 9, 2010, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born June 18, 1935, in Vincennes, IA, he was the son of Everett Lee and Mabel Mullikin Royer. On February 15, 1958, he married Twyla F. Hilbrant in Trenton, Iowa.

He was an electronics technician and then became an ordained Open Bible Standard Churches pastor. He was also a former district superintendent of Southeast Iowa, serving churches in Southeast Iowa, and served on several denominational boards and committees, including the General Board of Open Bible Standard Churches. He was a 1953 graduate of Fairfield High School. He graduated from Berean School of Bible in 1979 and received his Bachelor of Art in Christian Counseling from the International Bible College and Seminary. He was an U.S. Army Veteran, serving in Korea. He was a member of the Church of the Open Bible in Burlington and a chaplain for the V.F.W. Post #526 in Centerville. He was well known for his care and outreach in all of the different communities in which he lived and served.

Survivors include his wife, Twyla; three sons, John L. (Julie) Royer of Pensacola, FL, Rev. Dr. Marc (Dr. Marceil) Royer of Goshen, IN, and Jeff (Kim) Royer of Danville; 10 grandchildren; six grandchildren; two brothers, William (Kaye) Royer, and Joe (Carol) Royer, both of Burlington; two brother-in-laws, Richard (Helen) Hilbrant of Muscatine, IA, and Robert Hilbrant of Sun City, AZ; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and two sisters.

Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
