Melissa Hingst Standard 1960 - 2010

Melissa (Hingst) Standard, 49, of Burlington died at 4:39 a.m. on Sunday, September 5, 2010 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines as a result of injuries sustained from an automobile accident.

Born September 14, 1960 in Burlington she was the daughter of Paul Lewis and Alice Lucile Bright Hingst. On November 24, 1989 she married Tim L. Standard in Burlington.

Melissa was a 1979 graduate of Notre Dame High School and attended Southeastern Community College. She worked for the Burlington Community School System as a teacher’s associate.

Melissa and her family belonged to the West Burlington United Methodist Church, where she was a lay speaker and lay leader. Melissa also served on the staff parish, the church council, the finance committee and was instrumental in youth group. She enjoyed scrapbooking, stamping, crafting and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Her biggest enjoyment was her family especially her daughters, nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her husband, Tim Standard of Burlington; two daughters, Emma Standard and Molly Standard both of Burlington; her parents, Paul and Alice Hingst of Burlington; six brothers, Thomas (Pat) Hingst of Waukee, Iowa, Mark (Mina) Hingst of Tucson, Arizona, David Hingst, John Hingst, Roger Hingst and Eric Hingst all of Burlington; six sisters, Mary Bright Hingst of Bloomfield, Iowa, Jane Hingst of Bettendorf, Iowa, Barbara Hingst of Iowa City, Iowa, Sally Hingst of Iowa City, Iowa, Rebecca Hingst of Burlington, Michelle (Bob) Turnbull of Bellevue, Nebraska and aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one daughter, Teah Allyn Standard; two sisters, Christina and Christal and one brother, Gregory.

Friends may call after 1:00 p.m. today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.

The memorial service for Melissa will be 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 8th in Lunning Chapel. The Rev. Jackie Bradford will officiate. Interment will be at a later date. Cremation has been accorded.

A memorial has been established.
