Leonard Brown

Leonard E. Brown, 85, of Mediapolis, died at 7:30 a.m. Sunday, March 26, 2006, at Prairie Ridge Care & Rehab in Mediapolis.

Born Feb. 7, 1921, in Kingston, he was the son of Joseph Leonard and Edith Goble Brown. He first married Helen Springsteen. They divorced. On May 23, 1959, he married Mildred Heater in Moline, Ill.

Mr. Brown was a welder at Barnard–Leah's in Cedar Rapids.

He was of the Protestant faith. He was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Steven Brown of Ladue, Mo.; one daughter, Barbara Mumme of Ellisville, Mo.; one stepdaughter, Pat Williams of Mediapolis; one stepson, Lanny Heater of Winslow, Ark.; nine grandchildren; seven great–grandchildren; one great–great–grandchild; two sisters, Fern Springsteen of Oakville and Doris Russell of Sacramento, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one daughter.

Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. today at Prugh's Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m.

The graveside service for Mr. Brown will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Birmingham Cemetery in Birmingham, with the Rev. JudyAnn Morse officiating.

A memorial has been established.
