Doyle Lyons, 70, of rural Danville, died at 9:20 p.m. Sunday, December 13, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
Born October 13, 1939 in Iowa City, he was the son of Ollie and Susie Perkins Lyons. On July 2, 1960 he married Helen Weyrick in Burlington.
Mr. Lyons was an auto machinist. Doyle loved Westerns, canned the world's best pickled beets and was so strong that he used only one arm to lift off a car that had fallen on him. He will be remembered as a kind-hearted prankster who loved to tease. He enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Lyons of rural Danville; two daughters, Julie (Kevin) Swafford of Joplin, Missouri and Annette (Tom) Porter of Keokuk; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one brother, Darrell (Esther) Lyons of Muscatine.
His parents; one granddaughter, Melissa; and three brothers, Marvin, Harold and Merrill preceded him in death.
Friends may call from noon until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 16th, in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
The graveside funeral service and interment for Mr. Lyons will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 17th, in Prairie Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Cindy Johnson will officiate.
A memorial has been established.
