James Gahn

James A. Gahn, 70, of Burlington, died at 2:20 p.m. Thursday, March 13, 2003, at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport.

Born Sept. 10, 1932, in Burlington, he was the son of Harry and Louise "Billie" Chapman Gahn. On June 9, 1951, he married Sanchia Lietsch in West Burlington.

Mr. Gahn owned and operated Servicemaster of Burlington. He also served two terms as mayor of West Burlington.

He was a 1951 graduate of Burlington High School. He was a member of SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Kim P. Gahn of West Burlington and Dr. Matthew A. Gahn of Eveleth, Minn.; three daughters, Sanchia M. Snyder of Scarborough, Maine, Andrea M. Macziewski of Bloomington, Minn., and Katherine L. Peterson of New Hope, Minn.; 17 grandchildren; and three sisters, Dolores Richter of Colorado, Mary Ann Dunegan of Burlington and Jeanette Mehaffy of Cedar Rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sons, six brothers and one sister.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel. There will be no family visitation.

The funeral for Mr. Gahn will be at 10 a.m. Monday at SS Mary and Patrick Catholic Church in West Burlington, with the Rev. Gerald Stouvenel officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in West Burlington.

A memorial has been established in his memory.
