Evelyn Johnson
Evelyn Mae Johnson, 75, of Burlington, died at 5:26 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, 2008, at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.Born July 26, 1932, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Lee Arthur and Armeda Wills Dameron. On May 18, 1952, she married Howard Johnson in Burlington.
Mrs. Johnson was a homemaker, and she worked as a seamstress at Burlington Basket Company for six years. She was a graduate of Burlington High School.
She was a member of West Hill United Methodist Church. She was a Hawkeye and Chicago Cubs fan and enjoyed gardening, fishing, taking daily walks and nature.
Survivors include her husband; two sons, Dennis Johnson and Larry Johnson, both of Burlington; two daughters, Linda Barry and Leann Hanger, both of Burlington; nine grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Clarence Dameron, Robert Dameron and Richard Dameron, all of Burlington, Gene Dameron of Chardon, Ohio, and Bud Dameron of Washington; two sisters, Marcella Whitham of Mediapolis and Bettie Drain of Sperry; nieces; and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her stepmother, one daughter in infancy, one great-grandson in infancy and one brother.
Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Lunning Chapel, where family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
Her body will be cremated after the visitation.
The memorial service for Mrs. Johnson will be at 1 p.m. Monday at West Hill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Morris Hurd officiating.
