WILLIAM MILLER,
COUNTY PIONEER,DIES ON FARM
William Miller, pioneer resident of Flint River township, died yesterday at 5 p.m. at the farm near Hawkeye School north of Burlington on which he settled 50 years ago. Mr. Miller was 86 years old. He was born September 22, 1842, in Salzville, Germany, and came to the United States when he was 24 years old.
Upon coming to this country, Mr. Miller spent about four months in New York and then came to Des Moines County, residing here the remainder of his life. He was married in 1871 to Dorothea Schultz, who preceded him in death about 30 years ago.
Mr. Miller is survived by eight children, four sons, and four daughters as follows: Mrs. F.W. Isermann and Edward Miller of Burlington, Mrs. William Schulz of Milton, Ia., Mrs. August Schulz, Herman, and John Miller of Flint River township, and Emma and Will Miller at home. Eighteen grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at Salem church, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock and from the residence at 1:30 o'clock. Interment will be in the church cemetery.
