Herbert Grinstead
Herbert E. "Eddie" Grinstead, 81, of Le Mars and formerly of New London and Amarillo, Texas, died Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at Good Samaritan Society in Le Mars.

Born Dec. 11, 1926, in Danville, he was the son of Glenn Ray and Wilma Leota Smith Grinstead. On Feb. 4, 1950, he married Alice L. McElhaney in Burlington. She died June 30, 2007.

Mr. Grinstead worked at Sylvania in Burlington and the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. He worked at Pantex in Amarillo, Texas and also worked as a part-time TV repairman in New London. He served in the Army during World War II. He received a technical degree in electronics in Chicago. He was a member of St. Stephens United Methodist Church in Amarillo and former member of New London United Methodist Church. He was a 50-year member of the Masons and a Boy Scout leader, receiving the Silver Beaver award. He enjoyed boating, fishing, hunting, reading and pets.

Survivors include one son, Ray Grinstead of Le Mars; two grandchildren; and two sisters, Betty Litton of Mount Pleasant and Leota Gilbert of Villa Park, Ill.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 2 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Elliott Chapel in New London where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Grinstead will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel in New London with the Rev. Dot Hasler officiating. Burial will be in Burge Cemetery in New London.

A memorial has been established.
