Melvin Nickols
Melvin Earl Nickols, 77, of Burlington, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2008, at his home.

Born May 20, 1930, in Burlington, he was the son of Raymond and Edith Stonehouse Nickols. On Oct. 21, 1962, he married Judith Marie Weiss in Burlington. She died Dec. 11, 2000.

Mr. Nickols worked at Lehigh-Leopold for 30 years. He worked for the City of Burlington and Ritter's Flowers in West Burlington. He was a graduate of Burlington High School. He was a member of Church of the Open Bible in Burlington where he was an usher and a greeter. He enjoyed woodworking and puzzles. He was a Cubs and Hawkeye fan.

Survivors include one daughter, Janis Louise Fortin of Danville; two grandchildren; and one sister, Mae Edie of Excelsior Springs, Mo.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Lunning Chapel, where family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Nickols will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Ken Peterson officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for Church of the Open Bible and Great River Cardiac Rehab.
