Raymond Jaeger
Raymond Charles "Jake" Jaeger, 88, died at 4:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 26, 2008, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born June 20, 1919, in Burlington, he was the son of Harry B. and Edith Hodges Jaeger. On Aug. 6, 1939, he married Helen Greta Bragg. She died April 29, 2005.

Mr. Jaeger worked for 41 years at Leopold Desk, retiring in 1981. He served in the Marine Corps during World War II. He received a Purple Heart from injuries received in the battle in Okinawa and was a member of the DAV.

He was of the Protestant faith. He was an avid duck hunter and enjoyed fishing and boating on the Mississippi River. He was also an avid gardener and enjoyed sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. He was a Cubs fan and enjoyed football and baseball games. He was a people person and made friends wherever he went.

Survivors include three sons, Donald L. "Skip" Jaeger and Fredrick M. "Fred" Jaeger, both of Burlington, and Richard A. "Rich" Jaeger of Gulfport, Ill.; three daughters, Edith M. Jaeger of Kingsford, Mich., Donna J. Hull of Burlington and Diana L. Jackson of Berthoud, Colo.; 10 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, his parents, four sisters and one brother.

The funeral for Mr. Jaeger will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Lunning Chapel with the Rev. Ron Jewett officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memorial Park Cemetery.

A memorial has been established for Great River Hospice House.
