Gear Peterson
Gear E. "Skeeter" Peterson, 75, of Stronghurst, Ill., died at 10:15 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 23, 2007, at Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center in Stronghurst.

Born July 26, 1932, in Hopper, Ill., he was the son of Gear and Mamie Dowell Peterson. On Nov. 3, 1952, he married Lorraine Johnson in Gladstone, Ill.

Mr. Peterson began work as a teenager at the former Davison Motor Sales in Stronghurst. He owned and operated Peterson's Auto Body in Stronghurst from1989 until his retirement in 2002. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and gardener. He was a member of the Stronghurst Christian Church.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Karen Nichols of Stronghurst; five sons, Jeff Peterson, Quentin Peterson and Pat Peterson, all of Stronghurst, Kenneth Peterson of Biggsville, Ill., and David Peterson of Knoxville, Ill.; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Bonnie Utt of Burlington.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one great-grandchild, two brothers and two sisters.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Stronghurst where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Peterson will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with the Revs. Ron Kelly and Maurice Stribling officiating. Burial will be in the Stronghurst Cemetery.

Memorials have been established for the Oak Lane Nursing & Rehab Center and the Stronghurst Ambulance Service.
