Miriam Ferguson
Miriam L. Ferguson, 79, of Mount Pleasant, died Tuesday, Dec. 25, 2007, at the Pleasant Manor Care Center in Mount Pleasant.

Born Sept. 5, 1928, in rural Louisa County, she was the daughter of Earl and Frances Moyers Harrison. On June 17, 1948, she married Don L. Ferguson in Burlington. They later divorced.

Mrs. Ferguson worked in the neo-natal units at the Burlington Medical Center before moving to Tucson, Ariz. She worked at the University of Arizona Medical Center, specializing in care of special needs newborns. She was a registered foster care provider and her family included numerous foster children. She graduated from Burlington High School. In 1970, she returned to college at Southeastern Community College and earned a degree as a licensed practical nurse. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was an accomplished seamstress and enjoyed making clothing for family and friends.

Survivors include four daughters, Sheila Gorsuch of Benson, Ariz., Hope Jennett of Morning Sun, Eileen Doneson of Arizona City, Ariz., and Joy Lynn Conwell of Salem; one son, Wayde Ferguson of Mount Pleasant; 10 grandchildren; 17 great- grandchildren; one sister, Wanda Lea Goodell of Cheyenne, Wyo.; one brother, Floyd Harrison of Garland, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, four children, one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday at Beatty-Murphy Funeral Home in Mount Pleasant where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Ferguson will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Mount Pleasant with Ed Conwell officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Morning Sun.

A memorial has been established for the Pleasant Manor Care Center Activity Fund.
