Ronald Balzer
Ronald Lee Balzer, 68, of West Burlington, died at 2:05 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2001, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Born April 27, 1933, in Burlington, he was the son of Martin Robert and Gertrude M. Kennedy Balzer. He married Helen Shipman on Dec. 21, 1969, in West Burlington. She died May 9, 1996.
Mr. Balzer was a 1950 graduate of Burlington High School and a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War.
He was co-owner of Balzer Brothers.
He was a member of West Burlington United Methodist Church.
Survivors include one daughter, Barb Balzer of Burlington; two sons, Dallas Balzer of Wever and David Balzer of Columbus, Ohio; one stepson, Russ Weir of Burlington; more than 40 foster children; four grandchildren; one brother, Robert Balzer of West Burlington; and three sisters, Mabel Peterson of West Burlington, Phyllis Brever of Winter Haven, Fla., and Donna Hightower of Mount Pleasant.
Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Visitation will begin at noon today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
The funeral for Mr. Balzer will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the chapel, with the Rev. Jack Wolgamuth officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Grove Cemetery in West Burlington.
A memorial has been established for his church.
