Sherry Petersen

Sherry A. Petersen, 76, of Mediapolis, died Monday, Nov. 12, 2007, at her home.

Born May 3, 1931, in Burlington, she was the daughter of Edward William and Mary Koenig Pohren. On Aug. 11, 1951, she married Ray "Pete" Petersen in Carson City, Nev. He died March 8, 1994.

Mrs. Petersen had managed several businesses in Mediapolis. She graduated from St. Paul's High School in Burlington in 1948. She was raised by her stepfather and mother, Leroy and Mary Smith.

She attended the Methodist Church in Mediapolis. She was an avid sports fan enjoying Mediapolis wrestling, the Cubs and watching all sports. She also enjoyed crocheting.

Survivors include one daughter, Mary Thomas of Iowa City; four sons, Kerry Petersen of Tucson, Ariz., Curt Petersen and Dan Petersen, both of Sperry, and Tim Petersen of Carman, Ill.; 18 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Margaret Anderson of Burlington, Pat DeVilbiss of Roseville, Calif., and Wilma Lewis of Havana, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her father, her mother, her stepfather, one son in infancy, one daughter in infancy, one brother and one sister.

Visitation will be from noon to 6 p.m. Thursday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Petersen will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home. Burial will be in Kossuth Cemetery.

A memorial has been established.
