Lawrence Remaly

Lawrence A. "Luigi" Remaly, 86, of Knoxville, Ill., formerly of Galesburg, Ill., died at 7:15 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 21, 2003, at OSF St. Mary Medical Center in Galesburg.

Born Nov. 22, 1916, in Burlington, he was the son of William Fred and Emma Nyhart Remaly. On June 1, 1936, he married Verna B. Cable. She died July 12, 1998.

Mr. Remaly worked for Gunther Construction in Galesburg for many years. He then became a self-employed carpenter and contractor until his retirement in 1993.

Survivors include one son, Arthur E. Remaly of California; three daughters, Betty Sierra of Wataga, Ill., Linda B. Cooley of Colona, Ill., and Donna L. Remaly of Davenport; 18 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by one son, three brothers, two sisters and his parents.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Hinchliff-Pearson-West Galesburg Chapel in Galesburg.

The graveside service for Mr. Remaly will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Old Stone Cemetery in Sperry, with Jason Cooley officiating.
