Edna Thomas

Edna Mae Thomas, 76, of 14268 190th St., Sperry, died at 955 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 23, 1995, at Burlington Medical Center.

Born Sept. 28, 1919, in Sperry, she was the daughter of Grover Cleveland and Emma Martha Riepe Granaman. She married Leo Earl Thomas on Jan. 5, 1938, in West Burlington. He died Aug. 3, 1988.

Mrs. Thomas was a 1937 graduate of Sperry High School. She was a homemaker and had worked at National Research.

She was a member of Sperry United Methodist Church and the Des Moines County Saddle Club, and director of the Old Stone Cemetery Association.

Survivors include two daughters, Joleen Myers of Sperry and Lynne Giles of Iowa City; one son, David Thomas of Mount Pleasant; one sister, Carolyn Trautner of Sperry; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one grandson, one great-granddaughter, one sister and an infant brother.

Friends may call after 8 a.m. today in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 830 p.m.

The funeral for Mrs. Thomas will be 130 p.m. Thursday in Lunning Chapel with the Rev. John Gaulke officiating. Burial will be in Old Stone Cemetery, Sperry.

A memorial has been established to Old Stone Cemetery.
