George Humiston
George Leonard Humiston, 70, of Wilton died Saturday, July 7, 2007, at Genesis Medical Center in Davenport.

Born May 20, 1937, in Louisa County, he was the son of Paul and Pauline Crammond Humiston. On Nov. 10, 1957, he married Karen Asher in Wapello.

Mr. Humiston retired from Century Buildings in West Des Moines in 1997. He and his wife owned and operated Craft Studios Distributing in Durant. He had worked for Oscar Meyer in Davenport and was a foreman at Russelloy Foundry in Davenport. He graduated from Wapello High School in 1956.

He attended Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Durant. He was a former member of the Durant and Bettendorf Jaycees and was a JCI senator. He had served on the Durant City Council.

Survivors include his wife of Wilton; two daughters, Linda Birkhofer of Moscow and Lori Porstmann of Durant; four grandchildren; one sister Darlyne Gray of New London; and two brothers, Rex Humiston of Sperry and Dale Humiston of Waukee.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at Bentley Funeral Home in Durant.

The private funeral service for Mr. Humiston will be at Bentley Funeral Home. Burial will be later in Wapello Cemetery in Wapello.

A memorial has been established for Durant Ambulance Service.
