Frances Brown

Frances Jane Brown, 87, of Manly died Thursday, May 2, 2002, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa.

Born June 13, 1914, in Pleasant Grove, she was the daughter of John Elmer and Myrtle Flora Landrum Wasson. On June 14, 1933, she married Leo Laverne Brown in Monmouth, Ill. He died in March 1950.

Mrs. Brown moved to Donnellson after her husband's death. While living there, she worked as a computer operator at the Dupont Paint Plant in Fort Madison for more than 26 years. She retired July 7, 1977.

She grew up in Pleasant Grove, graduating from Yar-mouth High School. She then attended business college in Des Moines. She and her husband lived all over the United States including Michigan, Washington and Nebraska. After retiring, she relocated to Harlingen, Texas, and later to Tucson, Ariz. She moved to the northern Iowa area in August 1999.

She enjoyed fishing and was an avid golfer. She also loved to travel and traveled extensively throughout Europe and the United States. She was a former member of the Presbyterian Church in Donnellson.

Survivors include two sons, Terry D. Brown of Manly and Donald Brown of Berthoud, Colo.; seven grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, one brother-in-law and one infant great-grandson.

The body of Mrs. Brown will be cremated. Burial will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Cumberland Presbyterian Cemetery in Pleasant Grove.

Hogan Bremer Moore Colonial Chapel in Mason City is in charge of the arrangements.
