Charles W. Earnest, 100, of Mediapolis died Monday, May 28, 2007, at Prairie Ridge Care Center.

Born Sept. 29, 1906, in Mediapolis, he was the son of Louis H. and Frances J. Blake Earnest. On Dec. 20, 1933, he married Ferne V. Johnson in Mediapolis. She died March 29, 2001.

He farmed until 1955 and then moved into Mediapolis. He worked at Davis Oil Station and the US Gypsum Plant retiring in 1972. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mediapolis and served on the Kossuth Cemetery Board for several years. He enjoyed mowing yards and walking.

Survivors include one son, Marvin Earnest of Elkhorn, Neb.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one sister, Cordell Litton of Fairfield.

Besides his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, one infant daughter, two infant sons, one great-grandson, one brother and two sisters.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Hagele and Honts Funeral Home in Mediapolis, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Earnest will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immanuel Lutheran Church with the Rev. Jerleen Schlesser officiating. Burial will follow in Kossuth Cemetery.
