Viola Johnson

Viola Mae Johnson, 84, of West Burlington, died at 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, 1999, at OSF St. Francis Continuation Care Center, Burlington.

Born May 25, 1914, in Mediapolis, she was the daughter of Henry and Mary Ann McLaughlin Shepherd. On June 17, 1933, she married Clarence Theodore Johnson in Burlington. He died July 14, 1988.

Mrs. Johnson was a 1933 graduate of Mediapolis High School, Mediapolis, and was a packer for 33 years at Midwest Biscuit Co. She retired in 1980.

She was a member of Oak Street Baptist Church, Ladies of the Moose Lodge No. 579 and Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie No. 150, all of Burlington.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Schafer of North Canton, Ohio; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; one sister, Luella Shepherd of Burlington; one brother, Robert Shepherd of Burlington; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one son.

Visitation will be after noon until 8 p.m. Friday in Lunning Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday.

The funeral for Mrs. Johnson will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Lunning Chapel, with the Rev. Ron Presley officiating. Burial will be in Shinar Cumberland Cemetery of Pleasant Grove, rural New London.

A memorial has been established.
