Leo Luder

Leo M. Luder, 80, of Dallas City, Ill., died at 7:15 a.m. Thursday, July 27, 2000, at his home.

Born Jan. 26, 1920, in Colusa, Ill., he was the son of Charles and Ollie Daugherty Luder. On June 30, 1951, he married Cora M. Steeples in Fort Madison.

Mr. Luder was a graduate of Dallas City High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and served as staff sergeant with the 9th Division, 390th Infantry. He also served in the Army Occupation of Japan. He had worked at Sheaffer Pen Co. in Fort Madison for 13 years and at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown for 18 years. He retired after nine years at First Miss Corp. in Fort Madison.

He was a former Boy Scout leader and was a member of Dallas City American Legion for more than 50 years, where he had served as post commander.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Randy Luder of Burlington and Jeffrey Luder of West Burlington; two grandchildren; one sister, Wilma White of Lomax, Ill.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and five brothers.

Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at Banks & Beals Funeral Home in Dallas City, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

The funeral for Mr. Luder will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Banks & Beals Funeral Home, with Mr. Duane McCall officiating. Burial will be with military rites in Harris Cemetery near Dallas City.

Memorials have been established for Blessing Hospice of Hancock County, Ill., or the Pontoosuc Community Church.
