Gertrude Callaway

Gertrude M. Lee Callaway, 92, of 103 Greenbrier Drive, died at 515 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 11, 1996, at Burlington Care Center.

Born Oct. 20, 1903, at Monmouth, Ill., she was the daughter of Charles and Mary Enander Jones. She married Joseph H. Lee Dec. 19, 1922, in Monmouth, Ill. He died March 1959. She then married Sylvester Callaway May 22, 1965, in Burlington. He also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Callaway worked for the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant, National Research and Wells Lamont Glove Factory.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church and American Legion, was a Gold Star Mother and an honorary member of VFW Auxiliary.

Survivors include two daughters, Norma McKibben of Burlington and Dorothy Baldus of Champagne, Ill.; three sons, Robert Lee of Chesapeake, Va., Delbert Lee of Phoenix, Ariz., and Paul Lee of Burlington; 20 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and two brothers, Charles Jones of Moline, Ill., and Harold Jones of Denmark.

Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by two sons and one sister.

Visitation will be from 7 to 830 p.m. Wednesday at Prugh's Chapel.

The funeral for Mrs. Callaway will be 1030 a.m. Thursday at Prugh's Chapel, with the Rev. Fred Harris officiating. Burial will be in Burlington Memory Gardens.

A memorial has been established for Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.
