Marion Louise “Granny” Orth, 92, of Burlington, died at 5:44 AM, Saturday, March 25, 2006, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.

Born March 15, 1914, in Burlington, she was the daughter of William R. and Clara Keller Hamilton. On August 5, 1935, she married Albert J. Orth in Davenport, Iowa. He died March 10, 1976.

Mrs. Orth was a homemaker. She was a graduate of Burlington High School. She was a member of SS. John and Paul Catholic Church. She was an avid Bingo player, enjoyed playing cards and board games, and especially loved her grandchildren.

Survivors include eight sons, Hank (Sherry) Orth of Chandler, AZ, Thomas (Judy) Orth, Dan (Sue) Orth, Tim (Bambi) Orth, Bart (Ellen) Orth, Ricky (Carrie) Orth, Pete (Kathy) Orth, and Tony (Carol) Orth, all of Burlington; two daughters, Sharon (Jack) Carspecken of Burlington, and Beth (Landis) Hinesley of Las Cruces, NM; 26 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister, Rosemary Wade of Burlington; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and one infant son, Albert Jr.

Visitation will begin at 8:00 AM, Tuesday, March 28, at the Hass-Thielen Funeral Home until 4:00 PM. A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church after which the family will receive friends at the church until 8:00 PM. The Mass of the Resurrection for Mrs. Orth will be 10:00 AM, Wednesday, March 29, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with Rev. Father Patrick J. Hilgendorf as the celebrant and Rev. Father William R. Wiegand as the concelebrant. The Des Moines County Resurrection Choir will provide music. Interment will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials have been established for St. John the Baptist Catholic Church stained glass window fund and Great River Hospice.
