Edith Cable

Edith "Edie" Maxine Cable, 87, formerly of Burlington died at 4:20 a.m. Monday, September 18, 2006, at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital in Grass Valley, CA, with her family by her side. Her daughters, Tina and Billie, were Edie's caregivers in her final years.

Edie was born October 26, 1918 in Bonaparte, Iowa, the daughter of Max William and Mary Zenilla Huff DeRosear. On July 10, 1952, she married Richard "Dick" Cable in Monmouth, Illinois.

Edie lived a long and satisfying life, and she was ready to reunite with her husband, who died on the same day, September 18, in 1988. He called her "Red," for both her fiery spirit and her flaming red hair.

Edie was a wife, mother, grandmother, great–grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Edie was a homemaker for most of her life but held a variety of jobs throughout. She worked at the IAAP before her last four children were born, and in her later years, she worked at the F&M Bank of Burlington, where she made many friends. She baked the best cinnamon rolls you ever tasted. She loved flowers and vibrant color, having lost most of her hearing at a young age, her visual sense brought her great joy. She was a member of Church of Christ in Burlington.

Survivors include one son, Rick and Katy Cable of Long Beach, California; three daughters, Tina Cable of Burlington, Billie and Alan Bernard of Grass Valley, and Sherry and Douglas Kandle of Boise, Idaho, her sister, Dorothy Dill, her brother, Paul DeRosear, stepchildren; Ken and Marie Cable, Linda Cable, daughter–in–law Sandra Mellott, grandchildren; Kelly, Michelle, Elke, Nicole, Ian, Anthony, Kristin, Karley, Tim, Kevin, Cheri, Marty, Shelly, Tim, Frank, Charlene, Belinda, and Vincent, and great–grandchildren, Zoe, Theo, Amanda, Holly, Dalton, Joseph, Adam, Stacey, Cody, Dakota, and many other close family members and friends.

Her husband; parents; one daughter, Katherine Floyd; one son, Paul Mellott; two brothers, Harley DeRosear and Verle DeRosear; one stepson Ron Cable, and very close friends Andy and Rose Andrews, preceded her in death.

Friends may call from noon until 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 29th, in Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 30th, in Lunning Chapel with Bill Walkup, Minister of the Church of Christ officiating. Interment will be in Aspen Grove Cemetery.
