DEATH CLAIMS BELOVED MOTHER

Mrs. F. E. Dutton passed away at the local hospital Tuesday morning, May 31, 1921, following an operation performed on Saturday evening in the hope of saving her life. Mrs. Dutton had been in apparently good health until last Wednesday night when she was taken ill. Her condition at first seemed to yield to medical treatment and every indication pointed to a speedy recovery. On Saturday afternoon a change for the worse was noted and a surgeon from Anamosa was summoned. It was found that she was suffering from an acute attack of appendicitis, and an operation was deemed necessary. Mrs. Dutton was taken to the hospital and the operation performed Saturday evening. She rallied nicely from the operation and her family was greatly encouraged by the progress she was making toward recovery. Early Tuesday morning complications developed and at six o'clock she passed away.

Flora Wright, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Wright, pioneer settlers of Milo Township, was born in Manchester, August 12th, 1873, and spent practically all of her life in this community. She was united in marriage with F. E. Dutton on May 22nd, 1893, the ceremony being performed at Ocheyedan, Ia. where the family lived at that time. Immediately following their marriage Mr. and Mrs. Dutton established their home on a farm in Milo township. Here they resided until 1894, when Mr. Dutton was appointed deputy treasurer of Delaware County. They moved to Manchester and lived here for four years. In 1898 the family again moved to the farm in Milo township, where they resided until 1902 when they came to Manchester and established their home here.

She leaves to mourn her death, the husband and three sons--C. O. Dutton, Red Oak, Iowa; Wayne Dutton and Dean Dutton of this city; and two daughters, Elma and Lillie Dutton at home. She also leaves two sisters and one brother Mrs. Delia Traver, of this city, Mrs. Homer Daker of Waukon, Iowa; Will Wright of Mankato, Minnesota.

Funeral services will be held in the Presbyterian church Thursday afternoon at 2:30. Rev. A. O. Knapp will have charge of the services. Interment will be made in Oakland cemetery.

Mrs. Dutton was a member of the First Presbyterian church and also of the Rebekah lodge, and was beloved by the members of the organizations.

The passing of Mrs. Dutton comes with crushing force to the husband and children. Only a few days ago she filled her place in the home, ministering to those by the ties of home had claims upon her. In the brief space of five days this home has been turned from a happy place to that of deepest sorrow. Mrs. Dutton's greatest joy was found in performing well those every day, common place tasks in life, so often neglected in this day and age. Mrs. Dutton was a home-loving, Christian mother, and cared little for the fleeting pleasures of life, but with singular fidelity she devoted herself to the rearing of her children, who will ever cherish in their hearts the sweet memory of true mother-love so prominent in her life.

The passing of Mrs. Dutton brings sorrow not only to the immediate family circle, but many who have learned to know and love her mourning her departure. Mr. Dutton and his children, in this time of infliction, may find some consolation in the lines of Longfellow:
Ah, Me! how dark the discipline of pain,
Were not the suffering followed by the sense
Of infinite rest and infinite release!
This is our consolation; and again
A great soul cries to us in our suspense;
I came from martyrdom unto this peace.
