Mrs. Charles Toogood, the aged mother of the late Jas. R. Togood died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Brady Miller on East Union Street last Saturday night, May 8th, following an illness which has extended over a number of months. Funeral services wee held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. C. Preussner on Monday afternoon, and interment was made in Oakland cemetery. Rev. C. K. Hudson of Cedar Rapids had charge of the services.
Elizabeth Wade was born in England, May 6th, 1833. As a young child her parents came to Canada, where she grew to womanhood, and where she was united in marriage with Charles H. Toogood, also of England, in 1853. To this union were born two children - one son, Jas. R. Toogood, who died in this city in April, 1919, and one daughter, Mrs. Robert Millard, who died in her home at Dyersville about three years ago. She is survived by one grand-daughter, Mrs. Pearl Henkels of Dyersville, and one great-grand daughter, Jean Marie Henkels. Mr. Henkels died at his home in Dyersville on February 7th, 1920, following a three days illness of influenza and pneumonia.
Mr. and Mrs. Toogood lived on a farm near Dyersville for a number of years, and later sold their farm and moved to Dyersville, where the former engaged in the hardware business. Following the death of her husband, Mrs. Toogood made her home with her daughter, and at her death, she came to Manchester, and has been given the best of care by friends.
