OBITUARY:

Sarah Elizabeth Whiting was born in Chatham, Ontario, Mar. 27, 1834 and died Mar. 24, 1919, thus lacking three days to being 85 years old. She grew to womanhood in Canada and was married there to Richard Allen on Aug. 4, 1858 where they lived until October 1868, when they came to Iowa, residing at Wilheim, near Manchester until his death Oct. 28, 1908. Since that time she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Weltha Ferris.

She is survived by seven children: Mrs. Weltha Ferris, Mrs. Etta McKinnis, Mrs. Rhoda Williams and Mrs. Lottie Smith, all of Manchester; John T. Allen of Oelwein, Iowa; Mrs. Lilly McNeill of Oakland, California; and Mrs. Rena Segeer of Earlville. Five step-children also survive her: Mrs. Dorinda Franklin of Woodstock, Ontario; Mrs. Rebecca Holmes of Illinois; Mrs. Matilda Graham of Manchester; Mrs. Dora Field of Enid, Oklahoma; and Henry S. Allen of Alta, Iowa.

Her life was long and useful. She was a kind neighbor and a devoted mother. She, with her husband, united with the Baptist church in Canada and was identified with the Baptist church of Manchester and sought to exemplify the Gospel she professed.

Children, step-children and grandchildren call her blessed and revere her memory.

Funeral services are being held at the North Manchester church this afternoon at 2 o'clock. Rev. H.F. McDonald has charge of the services.
