Manchester Democrat, Manchester, Iowa, May 9, 1906

Lewis Wells was born in Green county Ohio, Sept 29, 1827, and was married to Sarah Vanderhoof at Cassapolis, Michigan, Oct. 25 1854, and moved to Greeley, Iowa, in the fall of 1866, where he has resided ever since.

Eight children were born to them;, six are living; Frank, Judd, Hattie Wandell, Will, Rob and Fannie Miller.

He joined the Masonic Lodge at Buchanan, Mich., when he was 21 years of age and when the lodge at Greeley was chartered he went in as a charter member.

Last fall Mr. Wells suffered a stroke of paralysis from which he never recovered. He was taken to the home of his daughter, Mrs. G. O. Miller, at Delaware, where he passed to his reward on Monday, April 20, 1906, the burial taking place in Greeley cemetery, under charge of the Masonic Lodge of which he was so long an honored member.

Besides children, he leaves behind a loving wife, a companion of 52 years, upon whom the parting rested so heavily, and who has the sincere sympathy of us all.

The writer was the nearest neighbor to Mr. and Mrs. Wells for several years, in sickness, death and sorrow they did more than we can ever repay, and will always stay in our memory, cherished for their loving kindness in sunshine and in darkness.
