MRS. ALLEN SHOFNER
Mrs. Allen Shofner passed away at her home in Cedar Rapids, Friday evening, September 23rd, 1921, after nearly two years of illness. Mrs. Shofner had been a sufferer from cancer, and the last months of her life were marked with intense suffering.

The remains were brought to Manchester Saturday evening and funeral services will be held at the Baptist church Monday afternoon at 2:30. Rev. G. K. Hudson, pastor Trinity Church, Cedar Rapids has charge of services. He was assisted by Elder Akers, of the Baptist church. Interment was made in the family lot at Oakland Cemetery.

Dora Smith, daughter of Lorenz and Elizabeth Smith was born in Monroe County, Pa., May 20th, 1859. When she was seven years old her parents came west and located on a farm in Clayton County, Iowa. When she was thirteen years old she came to Manchester, where she grew to young womanhood, and where on September 25th, 1883 she was united in marriage to Daniel P. Ballard. To this union two sons were born, one of whom died in infancy, and D. L. Ballard of this city. Mr. Ballard passed away in Manchester on June 16th, 1893.

Mr. Ballard was married to Wm. H. Haller on April 10th, 1897. Mr. Haller died January 27, 1917.

On December 30th, 1918, Mrs. Haller was united in marriage to Mr. Allen Shoffner, and with the exception of part of the year spent in California, they have resided in Cedar Rapid where they erected a beautiful new home.

Mrs. Shofner had been a member of the Baptist Church of Manchester for many years, and also of the Rebekah of this city.

Deceased is survived by her husband, who cared for her during the many weeks of intense suffering with singular devotion; the son D. L. Ballard of this city; five brothers, Jacob Smith, of Independence; L. P. Smith, of Mitchell, Nebraska; W. G. Smith and Henry Smith, of Strawberry Point; Fred Smith of Littleport; four sisters, Mrs. C. E. Phillips, of Ackley, Minnesota; Mrs. H. Troup of Lamont; Mrs. Charles Grant of Manchester; Mrs. F. W. Meyen of Dundee. One brother, Albert Smith who passed away some years ago.

Mr. Shoffner and all who were attached to this good woman by the ties of natural affection, have the profound sympathy of a host of friends.
