The Late George H. Walker Obituary:

George H. Walker was born at Lester, Livingston County, New York February 2nd, 1840. As a young man of twenty-one years, he responded to his country's call, enlisting with the First New York Dragoons at Gainsville, New York, on August 4th, 1862. He was mustered in as a private in Company A, August 7th, 1862. After serving for three years he was mustered out with his company, June 30th, 1865 at Cloud's Mills, Virginia. A year or two later, he emigrated to Iowa, Locating at Strawberry Point.

On June 11th, 1871, at Dyersville, IA, he was united in marriage with Miss Matie Boomer. About thirty-five years ago Mr. and Mrs. Walker removed to Colesburg, which has since been their home. For upward of thirty years, they conducted the Walker House here until his failing health made retirement from active life advisable. Two years ago Mr. Walker sustained a slight stroke of paralysis, since which time his health was broken. He continued to fail gradually until overtaken by his final illness several weeks ago. At five o'clock on Friday afternoon, October 23rd, he passed peacefully away, at the age of 74 years, 8 months and 21 days.

Two sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Walker, the elder dying in infancy. The other son, Sidney G. Walker is left with the wife and mother, to mourn their loved one. The parents of Mr. Walker passed away many yeas ago, His sister Mrs. H. Dunning of Strawberry Point, and Mrs. Wilbur Smith of Marion S.D., also preceded him in death.

Mr. Walker was widely known throughout this section of the county and by the traveling public, and his death comes as a personal sorrow to many hearts. In the death of this pioneer resident, and veteran of the Civil war, Colesburg has lost one of its most respected citizen and the home has lost a kind husband and indulgent father. He was identified with the Masonic Order, the Order of the Eastern Star, and S.G. Knee Post, G.A.R. These organizations will ever hold him in kindly remembrance. Peace to his memory.

The funeral services were held on Sunday afternoon from his late residence, thence to Oak Hill cemetery, where interment was made. The services were in charge of the Masonic Order. Chas. E. Scholz, of Guttenberg, delivered the funeral oration, and the impressive Masonic burial service was used at the grave. The floral offerings were profuse and very beautiful - the offerings of friends and the fraternal organizations. The services were largely attended. Relatives, friends and Masons were present from Guttenberg, Elkport, Edgewood, Greeley, Strawberry Point, Earlville,, Dyersville, Manchester and Parkersburg.
