Bernadine Catherine Ambrosy, 86 of Dubuque and formerly of Bernard passed away on Friday, December 22, 2017 at Unity Point Health Finley Hospital.
Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2017 at the Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory 2595 Rockdale Road where a funeral service will be at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. Douglas Loecke officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Sacred Heart Cemetery Fillmore.
She was born on March 9, 1931 in Bernard, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Agnes (Duschen) Pfab. She married Lester A. Ambrosy on November 26, 1952 at Sacred Heart Church, Fillmore. He preceded her in death on March 19, 2013.
Bernadine and Lester farmed together in Bernard for many years until retirement. She enjoyed being outdoors and working in her flower garden. She also enjoyed shopping reading and traveling when ever she got a chance, and will be remembered for her famous chocolate chip cookies.
She is survived by her three children LuAnn Ambrosy, of Dubuque, David (Rebecca) Ambrosy of Bernard, and Rita (John) O’Connell of Bernard; eight grandchildren Andrew (Jolene Stecklein) O’Connell, Kristin (Bradley) Chrest, Jennifer, Brandon, Justin, and Jamie Ambrosy, Samantha and Dylan Heins; a sister Peg Pfab-Houge, and a brother Howard Pfab.She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Lester; a daughter-in-law Crystal Ambrosy; brother Harvey Pfab; and two sisters Callista Ambrosy and Alverna Schuster.
The family would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers who helped Bernadine over the years especially the staff at Sunset Park Place. Also to Dr. Matthew Kirkendall, Dr. John Viner and their staff’s along with the nurses and staff of Unity Point Health, Finley Hospital.
