Charles H. Splinter, 88, of Lemon Grove, CA, formerly of Earlville, died Sunday, January 15, 2006 at the Kaiser Hospital in San Diego, California, after a short illness

Graveside services with military rites will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 21, 2006 at the Fairview Cemetery in Earlville by Rev. Ross Wyman. Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. that morning at the Clifton-Murdoch Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Earlville.

Charles was born on May 23, 1917, in Earlville, Iowa, the son of Oswald J. and Bessie (Denton) Splinter. He graduated from Earlville High School in 1935. Charles was united in marriage to Ruby "LaVonne? Carty of Earlville in 1940. The couple moved to California and both were employed by General Dynamics in San Diego. In 1942, Charles entered the U.S. Army, serving in the Philippines and Okinawa campaigns. Upon his discharge, he returned to General Dynamics and retired thirty years later.

Charles was a member of the Lemon Grove Masonic Lodge. He belonged to the San Diego Dahlia Society, serving as President for many years and was Chief Judge for the Southwestern Region of the United States for 10 years.

Charles is survived by his wife, Ruby "LaVonne? Splinter of Lemon Grove, California; one sister, Eunice (David) Matthews of Cedar Rapids; and three brothers, Earl (Ersal) Splinter& Eugene (Anita) Splinter, both of San Diego, CA and Howard (Jerry) Splinter of San Antonio, TX.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents, O.J. & Bessie Splinter; and a sister, Darlene Goldsmith.
