Funeral services for Carl J. Schanbeck were held at the Lutheran Church last Thursday afternoon at two o’clock conducted by Rev. Henry Wiegand, and interment was made in Fairview Cemetery. Carl J. Schanbeck was born at Salow, Mecklenburg, Strelitz, Germany, March 12th, 1847, and passed away at his home her Jan. 27th, 1826, aged 78 years, 10 months and 12 days. He came to America in 1866 and settled in Danville, Ill. On June 21st, 1867 he was united in marriage to Mary Arndt. Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Charles Schanbeck as follows: Mary, Anna, Lena, Charley, Henry, William and Alvina. Mrs. Schanbeck preceded her husband in death. On Aug, 17th, 1904, and he was united in marriage to Christina Braun, of Dubuque. To this union one son, Paul was born.
Mr. Schanbeck had been a resident of Earlville and vicinity for fifty years. He was engaged in farming until fifteen years ago, when he retired and bought a home in Earlville. He was a devout member of the Lutheran Church and was one of the pioneers who were instrumental in building the Earlville Church.
Mr. Schanbeck is survived by his widow and the following children: Mrs. Anna Bleucher, of Danville, Ill., Mrs. Lena Anderegg, of Worthington, Minn., Charles of Earlville, Henry of Watertown, S. D., William of Avoca, Wis., and Paul at home. Mr. Schanbeck was one of the familiar figures about town and always took great pleasure in mingling with his friends. He was a devout husband and father, and his passing is regretted by many friends who extend to the bereaved family sincere sympathy.
