EARLVILLE, Iowa - Wayne E. Jackson, 87, of the Good Neighbor Home, Manchester, formerly of Earlville, died Thursday, Oct. 18, 2001 at Regional Medical Center, Manchester, following a lengthy illness.

Memorial services will be at 11:30 a.m. Monday at the Delhi United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Thomas Connors, officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Earlville, where military rites will be accorded by the Earlville American Legion and the New Vienna Veterans of Foreign Wars. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Clifton Funeral Home, Earlville, and after 10:30 a.m. Monday at the church.

Mr. Jackson owned and operated the Jackson Feed Store in Earlville for 15 years prior to 1964, and later worked at Floyd's Feed Store, Petersburg, for 20 years.

He was born on Nov. 14, 1913, in Delhi, son of Franklin C. and Mable L. (Holtzman) Jackson. He married Alyce M. Hyde on June 19, 1935, in the bandstand in Hopkinton; she died on Aug. 23, 1985.

He served with the Army during World War II. He was a corporal and received the Bronze Star while in Germany. He lived in the Delhi and Earlville areas most of his life.

He was a member of the Delhi United Methodist Church, Earlville Legion Post 436, New Vienna VFW Post 7736, and the Colesburg Rebekah Lodge 428. He enjoyed fishing and was a Chicago Cubs and New York Yankees fan.

Surviving are a son, Travis (Jane) Jackson, of Marion; a daughter, Cheryl (Jon) Johnston, of Fort Sheridan, Ill.; two sisters, Nida Reth, of Delhi, and Marilyn Overman, of Davenport; a brother-in-law, Guy Knutson, of Delhi; three grandchildren, Lindsay Anne Jackson, and Courtney Marie and Chelsea Morgan Johnston.

He also was preceded in death by four brothers, Frank, Earl, Clair and Gilman; and a sister, Beulah Knutson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Maquoketa Valley Chapter Dollars for Scholars.
