Funeral services were here Monday for Mrs. Robert Davis, 84, lifelong resident of this vicinity, who died Friday in Duluth, Minn., hospital; following a paralytic stroke suffered while visiting her son who she accompanied home July 15 to visit, burial in Earlville.

Nee Mary Jane Roberts, daughter of Thomas and Emma Jane Roberts, Mar. 29, 1861, at Hickory Grove, now Oneida, IA., grew to womanhood there and came to Manchester and came proficient as a dressmaker; was married at Earlville Nov. 2, 1881, to the late Robert Davis, who died here Dec. 25, 1943, and their 60th wedding anniversary was celebrated here in 1941; following their marriage their home was made at Delaware and the family located in Manchester in 1920; leaves two daughters, Mrs. Dale Smith, Manchester and Mrs. Walter Schwandt, Mason City; seven sons, Harry, Buhl, Ida; Walter and Curtis, Duluth, Minn., Barney J., Winter Haven, Fla., Lewis, Scales Mound, Ill., Alvah, Mitchell, S. D., and Ross, six miles northeast of Manchester; 22 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; 10 of Mrs. Davis’ grandsons are in the Armed Forces, eight of them overseas; member of the Baptist church while a resident of Delaware and joined the Methodist church upon her removal to Manchester, and taught a Sunday School class for many years; had also been a member of the Women’s Relief Corps and of the Royal Neighbors; also preceded her in death were her parents, three brothers and one sister, Mrs. Lo J. Gates.
