Telegraph Herald (Dubuque, IA) — Tuesday, March 20, 2012

Gary L. Baskerville, 69, of Dubuque, died Friday, March 16, 2012, at home.

Memorial services will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, March 22, at Egelhof, Siegert and Casper Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 2659 Kennedy Road, with the Rev. Parker Knoll officiating. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Gary's final gift was organ and tissue donation through the Iowa Donor Network.

Gary was born on Nov. 20, 1942, in Sioux City, Iowa, son of George and Marie (Albrecht) Baskerville.

He graduated from Colorado State University with a degree in mechanical engineering. He later studied at Iowa State and University of Wisconsin-Madison.

He married his high school sweetheart, Glee Somerville, on April 11, 1965.

Gary worked for John Deere Dubuque Works for 26 years, retiring in 1991.

He was a member of the Kiwanis, AMC, ASAE Engineering Societies and St. Paul Lutheran Church.

Gary loved gardening, grafting trees and spending time with his daughter, Suzi, his son-in-law, Shep, whom he enjoyed talking to about tractors, trucks and racing, and the light of his life, his granddaughter, Gracie. Family was the most important thing in his life.

Surviving are his wife, Glee; his daughter, Susan (Tracy "Shep") Gerhard; his granddaughter, Grace; and his stepgrandson, Kyle Breitfelder.

A Gary L. Baskerville Memorial Fund has been established, where memorials will be given to the Cardiac/Diabetes/Heart Failure program in his honor.

The family would like to extend a special thank-you to Dr. Whalen, Charlie McCoy, the staff at Tri-State Dialysis, Brian Peters, John Mousel and Connie Wessels, for all of their compassionate care and friendship.
