Mrs. Jane Young, widow of the late John Young, died at her home in Earlville on Thursday afternoon, November 16. The cause of her death is attributed to cancer.

Mrs. Young was a native of Ireland, having been born at Donegal in October 1834. She was married to John Young in 1849 in Summit county, Ohio. They came to Delaware county, Iowa, in 1860 and settled on a farm in Elk township. Seven children were born to the union six of whom survive as follows; Thomas of Creighton, Nebraska, Samuel of Baz?? Mills, Nebraska, Alexander of North Fork township, John, Jr. of Powell, Wyoming, Mrs. Eliza Sawyer of Howard, North Dakota, and Miss Mary, a teacher in the school of Fort Dodge.

Mr. Young preceded his wife in death about two years ago and one son Charles, passed away several years ago. Mrs. Young was a kind hearted Christian woman respected by all who knew her and her death removes another of the pioneer settlers of the county. The funeral was held at the M. E. church on Sunday afternoon and was conducted by the pastor, Rev. H. W. Artman. All of the children were present at the funeral on Sunday. Friends of the family, extend sympathy.
