One girl was killed and several others were severely cut and bruised in a highway accident in which two cars and a bus figured and which occurred about 12:30 Wednesday morning on the Hawkeye Highway, one mile east of Earlville.
The dead girl is Miss Margaret Buhman, 16 years old and a resident of Dyersville. Her death occurred at 6:40 Wednesday morning at her home, where she was taken following the accident.

Other persons who were in the automobile and who more or less were cut and bruised including John Peter Freymann, Dyersville, driver of the car in which Miss Buhman was riding: Roy Cunningham, Dyersville, and Miss Katherine Burlage of Dundee. The latter two were also in the car driven by Freymann. In the second car were Herman Scherbring, of Petersburg, who was driving and several members of his family. All were cut and bruised. The driver of the bus and two passengers, whose names could not be learned, were also cut and bruised.

The accident occurred when the Scherbring car, traveling east on the highway, and the Freymann car traveling west, sideswiped throwing both cars into the ditch. The Freymann car, however, did not clear the road before the big Chicago-Minneapolis bus was on the spot. The driver of the bus, seeing the situation, attempted to miss the automobile by going into the ditch himself, but it was too late and the machines crashed, both going onto the ditch.

Miss Buhman, who seemed to be most seriously hurt was taken to a nearby farm house and a physician from Earlville was summoned. She was later moved to her home in Dyersville where she died six hours after the accident. The other injured were taken to their homes for treatment, young Freymann, driver of the car, is said to be suffering with a badly lacerated knee and fears were expressed that his leg may be broken.

Machines Wrecks

The Freymann car is a complete wreck, while the Shirring car is badly damaged. The bus, likewise, was wrecked and two crew from Manchester were on the job early this morning to take it back to Manchester for repairs.

Mr. Scherbring and his family were returning home from Earlville where they had attended a church card while the Freymann party was on the way to Manchester for a ride following a dance held at Dyersville when the accident occurred.

The passengers on the bus were taken to Manchester where they were given medical attention.
The dead girl was the twin daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. W. Buhman. Besides her parents Miss Buhman is survived by three sisters, Geraldine, Mildred and Bernida, and one brother, Buddy.

Funeral services for the girl will be held Friday afternoon at 3 o’clock at the Methodist Episcopal Church, Dyersville.
