George Cornwell, 78, died at Finley Hospital Sunday morning at 11 o’clock from injuries received last Tuesday evening when a light farm wagon in which he was riding was struck on the Hawkeye Highway by Farley by an automobile driven by Floyd Sanner, Farley.

This was the third time within a short period that wagons in which Mr. Cornwell was riding were struck by automobiles on the highway. He had just recovered from injuries received in a similar accident a few weeks ago when he received the fatal injuries Tuesday evening.

Mr. Cornwell with his son, Albert also of Farley, was in the wagon drawn by a team of horses, when the accident occurred. Sheriff Frank J. Kennedy who investigated the accident said that there were no lights on the farm wagon and that the accident occurred just as another automobile, traveling in the opposite direction, was passing the wagon. The lights from the car prevented Mr. Sanner from seeing the wagon traveling ahead of him until it was too late to avoid the accident.

The farm wagon was demolished and both occupants hurled to the side of the road. The elder man received chest injuries, a bad head wound, an other injuries while his son escaped with scratches.

The body is lying in state at the home of his son George Cornwell, 259 East Twelfth Street, where funeral services will be conducted at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon. Interment will be made in Linwood Cemetery.

Mr. Cornwell resided in Dubuque County practically his entire lifetime. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Catherine Cornwell; four sons, George Jr., and John of this city, Sam of Kansas and Albert of Farley; two daughters, Mrs. Henry Ingler, of Greeley, Ia., and Mrs. Thomas Taylor, of Boyd, Wisc.
